Congratulations to SPACE Youth Theatre who were awarded both the 'Rosebud' Trophy and the 'Waistcoat' Trophy for best set for their performance of "Sing When You're Winning" by Mark Rees. Both trophies are new to the Drama Festival for 2008. The Rosebud Trophy is the under-18's equivalent of the Rosebowl Trophy for effectiveness of the production as theatre.

Sing When You Were Winning was described as "a poorly written play turned into a masterpiece". The Youth Theatre were especially commended for the effectiveness of the reversible set giving natural flow from scene to scene, plus good team work and discipline from the cast who brilliantly supported Tom Mills in his excellent performance as their team manager "Billy".

Well done also to Olivia Draper and her cast & crew who produced an excellent performance of "Half an Idea" by Bob Larbey.

Although SPACE adults - 2007's holders of the Rosebowl & Thomas Trophies - did not receive any awards this year, another SPACE member, Olivia Draper, contributed towards both trophies being handed down to the Vouni Independent Player's with their performance of "Albert Nobbs" by Gordon Steel. Olivia collected the Rosebowl Trophy on behalf of the VIPs as their producer and Brian & Glen Ayres were awarded the Thomas Trophy for Best Actors. Congratulations Olivia & the VIP's!

Congratulations also to Mercury Theatre, Ay Nik, who were awarded the 'Adjudicator's Pot' for attention to detail in 'Hero' by  Michael Lynch.

Well done to everyone involved!

Synopsis:

The writer completes his first play. When its enacted before his eyes it turns into a comedy about a jilted bride. The writer is not happy with this outcome and proceeds with a rewrite about a funeral. When this too is brought to life it involves hysterics, a late wreath and a madman with a wheelbarrow - not the savage play he intended!
